Two Learning Support Teachers—Brooke Martin and Bridget Kilczewski—are making a lasting impact on their students every day. With dedication and a focus on Health & Wellness, Brooke and Bridget help create an environment where students feel supported, empowered, and ready to succeed.
Brooke Martin: Building Lasting Relationships
As Brooke Martin approaches her ninth year at SDoL, she reflects on the most rewarding part of her job: the relationships she builds with her students and their families. “I often have my students for one to three years, and watching them grow academically and behaviorally is incredibly special,” Brooke says. “The connections we form are the best part of my job.”
Brooke also values the close-knit culture at SDoL. “Our students and families know that we’re here to remove any barriers to their success,” she explains. “I come to work each day knowing I have true friendships with my colleagues, and our leadership team always reminds me that I’m valued. It feels like my home away from home.”
Outside of her Washington ES classroom, Martin is a watercolor artist, specializing in animal portraits and landscapes. This creative outlet, along with the close-knit community she’s found at SDoL, has helped her thrive in her role.
With degrees from East Stroudsburg University and Cabrini University, Martin is looking forward to continuing her journey at the district, knowing that this school year is still full of possibilities for both her and her students.
Bridget Kilczewski: Advocating for Inclusivity
For the past five years, Bridget Kilczewski has been dedicated to helping students at Washington ES grow both academically and personally.
“I love working with my students for multiple years. It gives me a chance to help them grow, not only as learners but also as community members,” Bridget says, emphasizing the importance of teaching students to advocate for themselves and fostering an inclusive environment.
Kilczewski is driven by her belief that every student deserves equitable opportunities. “SDoL feels like a family,” she said. “We support, encourage, and inspire one another as we work to provide those opportunities.”
Recently, Kilczewski reached an academic milestone by earning her Master’s in Education with a concentration in Trauma and Resilience, along with a graduate certificate in Restorative Justice in Education. She applies this knowledge daily, helping her students navigate both academic and personal challenges. She’s also passionate about her role as a coach for Girls on the Run at Washington Elementary. Outside of school, she enjoys exploring Lancaster’s farmers markets, coffee shops, and spending time at the beach.
Making a Difference with Breakfast Club
Beyond their academic achievements, Martin and Kilczewski share a passion for creating a supportive and inclusive environment for their students. Together, they host a daily Breakfast Club for learning support students, offering a quiet space where students can eat breakfast, participate in a “ruler check-in,” and receive emotional support before starting the school day.
Their efforts go hand-in-hand with the district’s focus on Health & Wellness. By providing students with a safe and nurturing environment, both teachers ensure their students feel seen, heard, and supported in every aspect of their lives.
We’re proud to have educators like Brooke and Bridget leading the way in making our district a place where students not only learn but also thrive.
