This week, we are shining a spotlight on Mrs. Jennifer Sumrall, Administrative Assistant at Buehrle Academy, whose commitment to service and dedication to our community has made an impact over her 20+ years with the School District of Lancaster.
Jennifer’s story with SDoL is a deep-rooted calling to serve her community. As an alumna of McCaskey High School (Class of 1997), Jennifer has spent her life in Lancaster, and her love for this community shines through in every aspect of her work. Her favorite part of the job is connecting with the families and students she serves, knowing that the relationships she fosters today will continue to impact them for years to come. She believes in the power of service, and that belief is at the heart of everything she does.
One of Jennifer’s most notable accomplishments this year was her role in organizing an unforgettable event in partnership with the Department of Neighborhood Engagement of the City of Lancaster and the Lancaster Latino community. The event, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, brought together students from Buehrle and Phoenix Academy with local Hispanic leaders, first responders, and artists. Jennifer’s effort to create an authentic and enriching experience for students was not only about celebrating culture but also about creating real-life connections that will inspire the next generation of community leaders. Her work ensured that students learned about the importance of recognizing and celebrating Hispanic history, while also seeing firsthand the remarkable contributions of Latino leaders in our community.
Jennifer’s approach to her work is rooted in a sense of empathy and dedication. She recognizes that each student has their own unique strengths and challenges, and she strives to meet those needs with understanding and care. She believes deeply in the mission of empowering every learner, and her tireless work ensures that every student at Buehrle Academy feels valued, heard, and supported. Whether it’s navigating complex situations, organizing meaningful events, or simply offering a listening ear, Jennifer’s presence creates a space where students and families know they are truly cared for.
What stands out most about Jennifer is her ability to foster a sense of belonging in everything she does. She doesn’t just help organize an event or process paperwork—she creates connections that leave a lasting impact. Her work reflects her belief that every person, no matter their background or circumstances, deserves to feel seen and celebrated. Jennifer embodies inclusivity, respect, and equity in every interaction, and her efforts have made a lasting difference in the lives of the students and families she serves.
Outside of her professional life, Jennifer is passionate about making memories with her family and friends. She loves walking, working out, traveling, and spending time with her husband, Dorsey Sumrall, whom she met at JP McCaskey. Together, they share a love for music, dancing, and making the most of every moment. It’s clear that Jennifer brings this joy and positivity into her work as well, creating a warm and welcoming environment for everyone who interacts with her.
