Staff Shoutout: Lauren Clemens, Burrowes ES

This week’s Staff Shoutout goes to someone who, in a matter of months, has become a cornerstone of the Burrowes Elementary community: Lauren Clemens, School Counselor.

At Burrowes Elementary School, when students need a caring adult to talk to, when a classroom needs a lesson that reaches beyond academics, or when a team is looking for a collaborator who leads with intention, they turn to Lauren Clemens, school counselor. Though this is her first year officially employed by the School District of Lancaster, Lauren is far from new to our community. She previously served five years at Buehrle, wearing many hats: math teacher, Futures Academy leader, and instructional coach. Each role has added to her toolbox and shaped her approach to supporting students and staff today.

In her role as counselor, Lauren isn’t just providing guidanc, she’s building trust. She’s helping young people learn how to name and navigate their emotions, reflect on their choices, and believe in their potential. “I truly love working with students and helping them navigate their challenges and achieve their goals,” she shared. “It’s so rewarding to walk alongside them.”

Her colleagues have taken notice: “Lauren has been an exceptional addition to the Burrowes team this school year. She’s built meaningful relationships and helps students move toward identifying and putting forward their best selves.”

“She brings a can-do attitude and a lot of heart. Her lessons are engaging and full of relevant content, and she makes a consistent effort to connect with teachers so she can align her support with classroom needs.”

Lauren has a deep appreciation for the diversity and mission of the district. “SDoL’s focus on both social-emotional and academic growth, and its commitment to equity, are things I really value. Every student brings something unique, and our job is to make sure they feel seen and supported.”

Her personal interests reflect that same spirit of growth and exploration. A nature lover with a goal to visit as many national parks as possible (nine so far!), Lauren also prioritizes wellness and mental health in her own life. Humor, she says, is a key part of how she gets through each day — and it’s clear that her warmth and laughter are just as impactful as her structured lessons.

Lauren’s versatility is one of her greatest strengths. She’s taught nearly every grade level from preschool through high school, giving her a wide lens on student development. That perspective helps her tailor her approach to each age group while staying grounded in the belief that every child deserves connection, compassion, and high expectations.

When reflecting on her first year in the counselor role, Lauren shared, “I’m proud of the work I’ve been able to do, jumping into classroom instruction, building relationships, joining teams. The feedback from students and teachers has been encouraging, and I’m excited to keep growing.”

Lauren, thank you for bringing your whole self to your work every day. Your dedication to the students and staff of Burrowes reminds us that connection is just as important as curriculum, and that caring adults like you make all the difference.
