On Saturday, September 13 the School District of Lancaster joined community members, families, and local organizations at Buchanan Park for the Lancaster County Recovery Alliance’s 12th Annual Recovery Day. More than a gathering, Recovery Day is a celebration of healing, an opportunity to honor the strength of those living in recovery and to affirm that recovery is a vital and contributing part of a healthy community.
The Lancaster County Recovery Alliance (LCRA), a grassroots coalition founded in 2015, has worked to make this day possible. Its mission is to raise awareness, advocate for recovery, and expand access to care, aligns closely with the values we hold as a district. We know that the well-being of our students is deeply connected to the well-being of their families and neighbors. By standing alongside LCRA, we help ensure that the message of recovery reaches into every corner of our community.
For SDoL, participation in Recovery Day is about more than showing support, it is about strengthening the partnerships that make recovery sustainable. We recognize that addiction impacts some of our students and families, and we believe that creating a supportive, stigma-free environment is essential to helping every child succeed. Recovery is most sustainable when people feel welcomed, valued, and supported, and schools play an important role in building that environment.
At Buchanan Park, we witnessed what that looks like in action. Service providers, advocacy groups, and recovery champions came together not just to share resources, but to build connections. These connections echo the work happening in our schools, where counselors, social workers, family advocates, and community partners walk beside students every day. The collaboration between schools and organizations across Lancaster is what transforms recovery from a private struggle into a community celebration.
We are grateful to the Lancaster County Recovery Alliance for their vision of eliminating stigma and creating a county where individuals and families in recovery are treated with the same dignity and compassion as those facing any other illness. The School District of Lancaster is committed to this vision. By fostering awareness, expanding partnerships, and promoting a culture of care, we stand with our students, families, and community on the journey of recovery.
