Parent-Teacher Conferences
The first marking period is already winding down! The second marking period begins Oct. 28, so that means it’s time for parent-teacher conferences. These conferences are an opportunity for you to talk to your child’s teacher about their progress in school. We have flexible times on November 11 and 12. Please click below for a form to indicate your preferred date and time and return to the main office by October 26.
Dropoff/Dismissal Reminder
Please remember, at this time all car riders should enter and exit from Millersville Pike. The area noted with a star on the nearby map is the arrival/dismissal point for car riders. Access from Fifth Avenue and Hamilton Park drive should be avoided for all car riders, as it is causing unsafe traffic patterns.
Wellness Works
We’re pleased to announce that, beginning in November, our students will be participating in Wellness Works in Schools, a social-emotional learning program to help build a sustainable, healthy, and resilient school culture here at Smith-Wade-El.
Led by Wynne Kinder, the program’s themes include paying careful attention, unwinding from too much stress, breathing for calm, balancing with confidence, and bouncing back for resilience.
Miss Angie
Ms. Angie Sollenberger, the student and family resource specialist at Smith-Wade-El Elementary, submitted her resignation to pursue another opportunity. Until we hire a new SFRS, families in need of assistance should not hesitate to contact our school counselor, Teresa Glick, our home school visitor, Letitia Hernandez, or Mr. Lopez.
We thank Ms. Sollenberger for her service and wish her the best in her future endeavors!
Update on Principal Search
The district administration began its search for a new principal at SWE immediately. Until then, the district plans to name an interim principal and add an interim assistant principal who can provide additional support. Families are invited to participate in the principal search and will have an opportunity to ask questions of candidates and offer feedback to the district search committee.
Student Calendar
And we’re already thinking about next year! The school approved our academic calendar for 2022-2023, and the first day of school will be August 22.
