Message from Principal Martz

Good Afternoon SWE Parents and Families,

It was yet another great week of teaching and learning.

Kindergarten Registration will take place on Wednesday March 30th from 1:30- 4:30 here at Smith-Wade-El.

Please see below for important dates in the coming months and mark your calendar.  Just a reminder that Monday there is no school for students.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and we will see everyone on Tuesday.

Smith-Wade-El will hold in-person kindergarten registration on

Wednesday, March 30th 2022 from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

If you plan to come in person, please be sure to bring the following documents:

  • Proof of birth for your child (birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport)
  • Copy of your child’s immunization record
  • Most recent Physical Summary from doctor
  • Proof of residency (e.g. mortgage, lease, current utility bill dated within past 30 days)
  • Name, address, and telephone number of prior school, if applicable
  • Withdrawal Form/Transcript from prior school
  • IEP, if applicable
  • If student is not residing with biological parent then we will need one of the following:

The School Nurse will be on site to answer any medical questions/concerns.

Donations can be dropped off at the main office! Just make sure the team knows they are for PBIS.

You are invited to meet the finalists for the Principal vacancies at the School District of Lancaster. The finalists are interviewing for positions at the following schools:

  • King Elementary
  • Ross Elementary
  • Smith Wade-El Elementary
  • Wickersham Elementary

Logistics: Stakeholders from the above mentioned schools will have the opportunity to meet with each candidate, as a group. The meetings will take place in person and virtually during the week of March 28, 2022. A detailed schedule with candidate information will be shared prior to these meetings.

Participants: Participants may submit questions until 7 am on Monday, March 21, 2022. Prior to the meeting, each participant will need to complete a confidentiality agreement. Feedback will be collected electronically in order to expedite processing.

Meeting Format: The Search Committee will be hosting and moderating each meeting. After a brief welcome from the host, the candidate will take 10 to 15 minutes to introduce themselves to you as a leader. The candidate will answer questions submitted through the survey to gain further information on their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Due to the anticipated number of questions being received, we will focus on the most common themes submitted for each stakeholder group.

Decision Making : In addition to the responses collected through the survey in January, the Search Committee will rely on the feedback the stakeholders provide during the stakeholder meetings and the full interview process. The Superintendent reserves the right to make the final decisions.

Timeline: Recommendations will be made to the Board for a May 3, 2022 vote.  Additional questions and concerns should be sent to Ashley Keele, Talent Acquisition Manager. Thank you for your engagement. We truly appreciate your willingness to participate in this process.

  • Important Dates Coming Up:
    • Monday, March 21st – No School 
    • Wednesday, March 30th from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM – On-site Kindergarten Registration at Smith-Wade-El Elementary
    • Thursday, March 31st at 6:00 PM – Community Forum for Boundary Realignment at Lincoln Middle School
  • No Pre-Planned Educational Trips will be approved during PSSAs. English and Language Arts PSSAs are April 25th – 29th. May 2nd – 13th are Math and Science as well as make up testing.

    • April 23rd at 5:30 PM – SWE chorus student performance at the Pennsylvania Kings game at Millersville University
    • April 22nd – SWE Photo Day
    • April 29th – Annual Race for Education
    • May 12th – Spring Art Show
    • May 13th – Field Day
    • May 19th – SWE Spring Concert Thursday at 6:00 PM in the gym.
    • May 20th – Spring Celebration 6:00 PM -8:00 PM(Rain Date: May 27th)
