We want to make you aware of a mechanical issue affecting the fire safety protocols in the Phoenix Academy building on Rockland Street.
The fire alert system on several occasions this month gave false alarms, prompting building evacuations and a fire department response. While still functioning, the alarm panel is not reliable and needs to be replaced. At this time, we estimate it will be 6-8 weeks until a new panel is delivered and installed.
In an abundance of caution, we are following fire department protocols under what is known as a “fire watch.” An individual scans the building every hour for fire or smoke and records the conditions, under the direction of the fire marshal. The Phoenix faculty and staff, as always, are also vigilant in identifying potential emergencies.
Please note, the sprinkler system is not affected by this malfunction. Automatic fire suppression in the building remains fully functional.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
Dr. Keith Miles Jr.
