Happy Lunar New Year! For the School District of Lancaster and Lancaster Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders – LAAPI, this season is a moment to honor heritage and recognize the many cultures that shape our schools and our city.
Across East and Southeast Asian cultures, Lunar New Year marks the arrival of spring and the start of a new lunar cycle. Traditions vary among Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and other Asian communities, yet the heart of the celebration remains the same.
Lancaster AAPI works year round to elevate these stories and create space where Asian American and Pacific Islander voices are visible and valued. Lunar New Year is one of many opportunities to share culture proudly and publicly with the broader Lancaster community. Stop by downtown Lancaster for their annual Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, February 22!
This season affirms a shared commitment for both SDoL and Lancaster AAPI. We will continue to celebrate the richness of our diverse community. We will continue to create spaces where culture is honored and stories are welcomed. We will continue to ensure that every student, from every background, knows that their identity is not separate from their education but an essential part of it.
To all who celebrate, we wish you joy, health, and prosperity in the year ahead.
