School Board Appreciation Month: Anita Pilkerton-Plumb

January is School Board Appreciation Month, and throughout the month we are recognizing the dedicated individuals who serve on the School District of Lancaster Board of School Directors.

Today, we’re proud to highlight Anita Pilkerton-Plumb, a School Board Director whose work is deeply rooted in advocacy, wellness, and community connection.

Anita is a licensed clinical social worker with a counseling practice serving children, teens, and adults in Lancaster city. Her professional work centers on supporting mental health, strengthening families, and helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with care and compassion. That same commitment carries into her service to public education.

Before joining the Board, Anita was an active volunteer with School District of Lancaster PTOs, the Parent Advisory Council, the district’s wellness committee, and the 2019 boundary study. Her long-standing involvement reflects a thoughtful, hands-on approach to understanding district needs and elevating community voices.

Anita is deeply passionate about community engagement, including strong support for the arts, the LGBTQ+ community, and families across Lancaster. She brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her role as a board member. A graduate of Penn State University, where she studied Human Development and Family Studies, Anita went on to earn her Master’s in Social Work from Temple University. She is also the proud parent of a 2022 McCaskey High School graduate and a current McCaskey student, giving her a personal connection to the district she serves.

Through her leadership, Anita helps ensure that student well-being, inclusion, and community partnership remain central to district decision-making. Her service reflects the importance of listening and collaboration in public education.
