This course explores aspects of film making as well as those cultural, religious and political questions that films generate. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with key concepts and vocabulary needed for analyzing movies, to establish the value of film within social history, and to consider the impact of film and mixed media on the culture. Terms such as symbolism, Communism, family, marriage, and genre are analyzed using films such as Roots, Dances with Wolves, Schindler’s List, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Citizen Kane.
