Welcome to my new blog, The View from Here!
The truth is, this blog is about you. As a transplant to Lancaster, I have found this community to be the most caring, committed and innovative place I have ever lived. Our schools benefit immeasurably from the human capital of our students, our families, our volunteers and—of course—our committed faculty and staff. I want this blog to reflect my joy in leading this school district and being a part of this community.
I hope to post once a week or so. I may miss a week here or there, and a busy week may call for more than one post. We’ll be sure to share posts on social media and with staff in my Weekly Walk Aways email.
Our school district’s mission is simple: to ensure every child receives an excellent education. Our vision is straightforward: Every child will be academically and emotionally prepared to successfully enter college or the workforce.
We believe, further, that we can be a model of urban education for our Commonwealth and our nation. That is why we are relentless in innovating and improving what we do in the School District of Lancaster.
That’s the other purpose of this blog: To explain the why behind our work. When the pace of change is rapid, it is easy to lose sight of purpose. But when I reflect, I am confident that we have a vision that will bear fruit. We have not yet reached the promised land, but I know we are on the right path.
