A message from Dr. Krane on Price’s temporary relocation during construction

Dear Price families,

You may have heard that the School District of Lancaster will be constructing a new Price Elementary School for us, which is planned to open for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. I want to begin to explain what this means for us during this transition period.

To make way for construction, all Price students and teachers will be relocated to the former Buchanan Elementary School on West End Avenue, beginning with the start of the next school year. We will be in the Buchanan building for the next two years.

It’s important to note that Buchanan is currently a vacant school building, so it will be entirely ours—with all of our teachers, support staff, and programs. We will continue to be a community school supported by the Boys and Girls Club. Buses will be available at Price each morning to transport students to Buchanan so your morning routine does not have to change. Of course, if you would like to take your child to Buchanan—or if they would like to walk there directly—you may do that also.

The district is making more than $1 million in improvements in Buchanan to ensure it is a suitable space for us for the next two years. That work will occur throughout the spring and summer. But don’t worry—you will have a chance to visit the building before the start of the new school year.

And remember, our current school building will not be torn down! You may recall we announced last spring that the Lancaster Recreation Commission (LancasterREC) will take ownership of our current school and plans a major renovation to expand its educational and recreational programs. Our new school will stand on the site of the REC’s current building, which will be torn down.

We know you may have questions that we did not answer in this letter about what all this means for you and your child. You’re invited to join us at our school on Tuesday, April 2 from 5-6 p.m. where we and district leaders will talk more about this temporary move and answer any questions you may have.

The future of Price is very bright! Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Florence Krane
Principal
