The School District of Lancaster has been asked about certain newspaper articles from Florida and Connecticut concerning two recently-hired principals.
The district has a strong process for vetting candidates, including background and reference checks. We became aware of these articles early in the hiring process. As is our practice, we thoroughly investigated the issues described in these articles and questioned the candidates about them.
Based on this due diligence, we determined the articles were incomplete, and omitted important information that would have reflected that there was no material wrongdoing by either candidate. The administration informed the school board of these facts before the board voted to approve their hiring.
Based upon the vetting and interview process, which included involvement of parents, staff, administrators and board members, the district enthusiastically supports the hiring of these outstanding educational leaders, and warmly welcomes them to SDoL.
