McCaskey High School’s Something Rotten! has received multiple nominations for the Hershey Theatre Apollo Awards, recognizing excellence both on stage and behind the scenes.
These nominations reflect months of preparation and what audiences experience during a performance is only a fraction of the work that leads up to it.
Students from McCaskey High School earned recognition across several categories:
- Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical
Greg Medina as Nick Bottom - Outstanding Featured Performer in a Musical
Joseph Miller as Brother Jeremiah - Outstanding Dance Number in a Musical
“It’s a Musical” - Honorable Mention, Outstanding Musical, Large School
Something Rotten! - Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical
Van der Veer Reiner as Nigel Bottom

Each nomination highlights a different part of the production. Lead and featured performances that carried emotional and technical depth. A dance number that required precision, timing, and coordination. A full musical brought to life through the combined efforts of students performing and managing every detail behind the scenes.
Students learn to rely on one another, solve problems in real time, and contribute to something larger than themselves. Every role, whether visible on stage or behind the curtain, plays a part in the final outcome.

The Hershey Theatre Apollo Awards, now in their 18th year, celebrate high school theatre programs across the region. Modeled after the Tony Awards, the program brings together more than 300 students annually and awards approximately $15,000 in scholarships each year. Since 2008, nearly $300,000 has been awarded to support students as they continue their work in the arts.
For McCaskey students, this experience provides an opportunity for students to express themselves while working collaboratively toward a shared goal. These opportunities reflect the School District of Lancaster’s commitment to preparing students academically, socially, and emotionally for success. Experiences like theatre help students develop the skills needed for college, career, and life beyond the classroom.
We are proud of the students who brought Something Rotten! to the stage and grateful to the educators and staff who supported them throughout the process. We look forward to seeing them represent McCaskey High School at the Hershey Theatre Apollo Awards ceremony on May 17.
