Notice of special education accommodations during school closure

The School District of Lancaster is committed to making a good faith effort to provide continuity of education while our school district is closed due to COVID-19. This includes enrichment and review activities, student engagement opportunities, teacher-led activities, as well as reasonable services for students. With schools now closed for the rest of the year, we will make every effort to provide a free and appropriate public education consistent with the need to protect the health and safety of students with disabilities and those individuals providing education, specialized instruction, and related services.

Within the next few days, you will receive in the mail a written Notice of Recommended Educational placement, which outlines the provision of services that will be provided to your child during these extended closures. As outlined, the school district will provide special education and related services through distance instruction provided virtually, online, consultation, and other remote learning opportunities until school resumes. Given the parameters set forth by Gov. Wolf, the school district is not able to provide all services in the same manner they are typically provided.

Our special education team values education and we value your child. We understand the challenges that this school closure has caused and want to do our part in ensuring your child has equal access to learning. We also appreciate the expanded role that has been placed upon parents and we want to be a support for you as well. Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and communities.
