The School District of Lancaster is facing a deficit of more than $10 million for the upcoming school year, which is forcing the school board to weigh difficult moves to cut costs and raise revenue.
“We know we need to make difficult decisions, but we have been here before,” write superintendent Dr. Damaris Rau in a blog post on Jan. 29. “We remain committed to our broad priorities, especially teaching and learning.”
She and school board president have advocated for more funding from the state, but the governor did not call for a large increase in funding this year.
The SDoL school board has three broad options: raise taxes, adjust or eliminate programs and/or use fund reserves to close the deficit. SDoL wants to know: What are some ideas you have on how the district can balance the budget?
