As students return to classrooms for the 2026-2027 school year, the School District of Lancaster is introducing a new theme that will guide its work in the months ahead: Right for students. Right for each other. Right for the future.
In a video message released during the first week of school, Superintendent Dr. Keith Miles shares how the theme reflects the district’s commitment to providing outstanding opportunities for students, fostering a culture of belonging, and making thoughtful decisions that strengthen the district for future generations.
The theme comes at a time when the district is celebrating student success while also confronting important challenges, including enrollment changes, financial pressures, and long-term facilities planning.
“These are more than just words,” Dr. Miles says in the video. “They are the questions we should ask whenever we make decisions as a district. Is it right for students? Is it right for each other? Is it right for the future we are building together?”
The message highlights the many ways students benefit from SDoL’s academic programs, arts, athletics, career pathways, and supportive school communities. It also emphasizes the importance of relationships among students, families, and staff, and the district’s responsibility to plan for a sustainable future.
While acknowledging that difficult decisions may lie ahead, Dr. Miles notes that every decision will be guided by the district’s commitment to students, community, and future opportunities.
“We may not always be able to do everything,” he says, “but we can always strive to do what is right.”
