SDoL joins Lancaster for Juneteenth Flag Raising

The School District of Lancaster was proud to join our community for Lancaster’s annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall, sponsored by the NAACP Lancaster, PA.

The ceremony brought people together to honor a defining moment in American history. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

While the day is rooted in history, Juneteenth invites all of us to reflect on the meaning of freedom, the lasting impact of slavery and the continued work needed to build communities where every person is seen, valued and treated with dignity.

For SDoL, that work begins with students. Our schools serve children and families whose stories, cultures and experiences reflect the richness of Lancaster. We believe students grow when they are given the opportunity to learn honest history, ask thoughtful questions and see themselves as part of the larger story of our city and country.

We are grateful to the NAACP Lancaster, PA, City of Lancaster, PA, and the many partners who made the ceremony possible.

SDoL is honored to stand with our community in carrying those values forward for our students. For more photos, visit us on Facebook.
