
This week, we are shining a spotlight on Amanda Aikens, Dean of Students at Ross ES! Amanda has been a valued member of the School District of Lancaster for 15 years, and her passion and positive impact have left a lasting mark on everyone she works with.
Amanda’s role goes far beyond her title—she is a mentor, a leader, and a source of encouragement to everyone around her. Her favorite part of her job? Building lifelong relationships with students and their families. She finds deep joy in celebrating student growth and success, and she believes that humor and fun are essential in creating a nurturing environment for learning. It’s clear that her compassionate and positive approach has a ripple effect, fostering a supportive and uplifting environment at Ross.
Amanda’s passion for her work stems from her love for the diversity within SDoL. She takes immense pride in being part of a district that celebrates cultural differences, honors individuality, and ensures that students and staff feel seen, heard, and valued. It’s our committment on inclusivity and respect that is at the heart of everything she does and reinforces why she loves being part of the SDoL team.
A graduate of Penn Manor High School and Millersville University, Amanda exemplifies what it means to give back to the community. A lifelong learner herself, she recently experienced one of her proudest accomplishments and career highlight. when a former third-grade student returned to Ross as a student teacher. Watching this young educator take her first steps into teaching has been a full-circle moment for her and a testament to her lasting impact.
Outside of school, Amanda is likely planning her next adventure. She loves to travel and had an unforgettable trip to Iceland this past summer, a destination that quickly became one of her favorites. Her adventurous spirit and love for new experiences mirror the enthusiasm she brings to her work every day.
Amanda’s impact at Ross Elementary doesn’t go unnoticed by her colleagues. One shared:
“Ms. Aikens is a great example of utilizing RULER and PBIS practices with students. She is always willing to teach staff how effective these methods can be when implemented. I am so grateful to have the support of Ms. Aikens here at Ross Elementary. I feel that I can speak for everyone here that having, her along with a few others, is really helpful. She is always so calm and shows so much compassion when faced with challenges. I want to give her a huge shout out of appreciation. Thank you so much Ms. Aikens for everything you do at Ross!.”
