Good Afternoon SWE Families~
As we roll into the winter season, your child might be bringing home their IPad. Please do not be alarmed, this is for inclement weather and if Dr. Rau calls a Flexible Instructional Day. Your child/children will use the IPad to get on zoom with their teacher and complete work. The day would start at 10:00 am. Please be on the lookout for more information from your child’s/children’s teacher if a FID day would be called. There is a snow storm scheduled for Sunday and Monday so with that being said, IPads are coming home today. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Stay safe!

Meet our New Student and Family Resource Specialist!
Mrs. West
Hello! My name is Shabrie West and I’m the new Student Family Resource Specialist. I’m looking forward to getting to know the students and families of Smith-Wade-El Elementary School. A little about me; I live in York, PA with my husband, 3 children (ages 16, 15 & 13) and my 2 dogs (Boots and Tiny). I’ve worked in the helping field for many years and began working in the school system 7 years ago. My goal is to help eliminate any barriers children have so they can be successful in school. Please contact me if you’re in need of assistance and I will do my best to help!

The School District of Lancaster will have in-person parent/teacher conferences with the option for families to have virtual conferences if needed.
Please complete a conference form and return it to your child’s teacher by Friday, January 21st. If you are requesting a Zoom conference, your child’s teacher will then send you a Zoom Link.
For in-person conferences, Smith-Wade-El Elementary is adhering to SDoL Health/Safety Guidelines and focused on maintaining the safety of all individuals. Masks are required for all individuals while they are inside school buildings. To limit potential exposure to school staff, we ask that you limit guests to 2 per conference for in-person conferences. If you are experiencing COVID symptoms, are waiting on test results, or have been exposed to COVID within 14 days of Parent-Teacher Conferences, please contact the main office at 717-291-6151 to reschedule or switch to a virtual conference.
We look forward to meeting with you during Parent-Teacher Conferences!
Forms are being distributed by the teacher, if you need an extra form please click here: SWE Conferences_Parent Sign-Up (002)

We officially started the attendance robo-calls. If your student is absent from school without an excuse – you will probably receive a robo-call around 10:15 a.m. But, don’t be alarmed – excuses for a student absence can be submitted in many ways!
- Sending a Class Dojo message your Child’s Teacher and/or Samantha Nocheck (the Attendance Secretary)
- Sending a request through Parentvue: https://sdlancaster.org/learn/parentvue/
- Sending in a hard-copy note with the student or dropping it off at school
Parent Excuses can be used for any day that is inexcusable by the doctor, another type of appointment, religious holidays, etc. You only get TEN Parent Excuse days for the whole school year. You have THREE school days from the absence to submit a Parent Excuse. Doctor’s Excuses, etc. can be submitted at any time.
There is more information on Attendance online on the School District’s Webpage: https://sdlancaster.org/learn/attendance/
Or in the Student Handbook
If you have specific questions – please reach out! We would be happy to help.
