The Class of 2040 has officially begun its journey with the School District of Lancaster! On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, our newest pre-kindergarten students and their families came together at Carter & MacRae Elementary for a welcome event designed to help families feel connected before the first day of school.
For many families, pre-kindergarten is their first experience with SDoL. That makes these early moments especially important. Before students ever settle into their classrooms, families have the opportunity to meet the educators who will care for their children, learn about available resources, and begin building relationships with the people who will support them throughout the school year.
Throughout the event, families visited stations hosted by district staff and community partners, met their child’s teacher, and received resources to help prepare for the year ahead.
The afternoon also reflected one of the strengths of the School District of Lancaster, the network of community organizations that works alongside our schools to support students and families. Lancaster-Lebanon IU13, Migrant Education, Acclaim Autism, and other partners helped welcome families, provide resources, and ensure multilingual families could fully participate in the experience.
Our work with families doesn’t begin after a challenge arises or once the school year is underway. It begins by creating spaces where families know they are welcomed, valued, and part of their child’s educational experience from the very beginning.
For our newest learners, this was only the first step. We are excited to watch the Class of 2040 learn, grow, build friendships, and discover all that they are capable of in the years ahead.
