College Admissions Options
What type of application should you submit?
Early Decision
Students applying Early Decision are agreeing that if accepted they will attend that specific school. While not legally binding, it is expected that students will attend that college. Applying early decision may increase your likelihood of acceptance, but carries risks if you aren’t sure you want to attend the college. Early Decision deadlines are typically in the fall.
Early Action
Early Action is similar to Early Decision in that the application is due in the Fall of senior year. Students may, however, apply to multiple schools this way and it does increase the likelihood of acceptance.
Regular Admission
Regular admission is the most common application type, with a deadline in January or February. Colleges have already accepted students from the Early Decision and Early Action applications, so less spots may be available.
Rolling Admission
Rolling admission varies, with applications accepted until the college has filled all spots. You still want to apply early to ensure you don’t miss out on acceptance.
Open Admission
Open access institutions, like Harrisburg Area Community College, require an application but all students are admitted. These applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
