Carter & MacRae Students Take Pride in Keeping Our Community Clean! 🌎🧤

On October 27th, the Lancaster Recreation Commission After-School Program partnered with Scout Reach, Scouting America, for an exciting community beautification project! Scout Leader Amanda Franqui shared an important message with our students about environmental responsibility, caring for our community, and the positive impact that even the smallest actions can have on protecting the places where we live, learn, and play.
Students learned about the importance of keeping our environment clean, what items are safe to pick up, and what should always be brought to an adult's attention. Before the cleanup began, Mr. Shane reinforced that safety comes above all else, reminding students to always stay with their assigned adults and remain on sidewalks and designated pedestrian walkways throughout the cleanup.
Then, equipped with heavy-duty gloves and trash bags, our students were ready to put their learning into action!
As part of our collaborative enrichment program efforts, 23 students and 6 staff members joined together to clean up Farnum Street Playground, the parking lot, and sidewalks surrounding Carter & MacRae Elementary School. Together, we worked to beautify the spaces where our students play, learn, and spend eight hours of their day.
The excitement was contagious! Students enthusiastically raced to see who could collect the most trash, taking pride in every piece they picked up. Their enthusiasm was so great that they even wanted to continue cleaning the neighboring properties!
We are thrilled to continue this partnership with Phase 2 on November 10th, when students and staff will take their efforts to Conestoga Street to clean the other playground and administrative parking lot.
Our goal is to grow this initiative into a monthly community beautification effort, empowering students and staff to take ownership of their school environment and continue caring for the amazing spaces where we work, learn, and play.
A special thank-you to Lancaster Recreation Commission, Scout Reach, Scouting America, Scout Leader Amanda Franqui, and our dedicated staff and students for making a difference!
