Your path from McCaskey to a meaningful career

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs at the McCaskey High School Campus prepare students for college and/or entry-level positions in the workforce within their chosen field of interest. Students who enroll in a McCaskey CTE program complete workforce development training, acquire college credits (through the PA SOAR program), earn industry certifications, and participate in work-based learning opportunities. In addition to these programs, McCaskey CTE students have the opportunity to participate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-related programme.

Accounting

Accounting Technology/Technician Bookkeeping – CIP 52.0302

2-Year, 6-Credit Program Students Begin in 11th Grade

Students enrolled in the Accounting Program of Study learn to use generally accepted accounting principles to complete the steps of the accounting cycle for various forms of business ownership. Students also receive instruction in automated accounting, business law and ethics, economics, and computer applications.

Building/Property Maintenance & Manager – CIP 46.0401

2-Year, 6-Credit Program Students Begin in 11th Grade

The Building Trades and Maintenance Program of Study prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills of basic building construction and maintenance principles (OSHA regulations, national/local codes, plumbing, electricity, painting, masonry, roofing, sweating copper pipes, rough carpentry, fine carpentry, machine maintenance & heating, ventilating and air conditioning, HVAC).

Cosmetology

Cosmetology/Cosmetologist, General – CIP 12.0401

3-Year, 9-Credit Program Students Begin in 10th Grade

The Cosmetology Program prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills related to experiences in a variety of beauty treatments, including the care and beautification of the hair, complexion, and hands. Instruction includes training in giving shampoos, rinses and scalp treatments; hair styling, setting, cutting, dyeing, tinting, and bleaching; permanent waving; facials; manicuring; and hand and arm massaging. Bacteriology, anatomy, hygiene, sanitation, salon management, including record keeping and customer relations, are also emphasized.

Early Childhood Education

Child Care & Support Services Management – CIP 19.0708

2-Year, 6-Credit Program Students Begin in 11th Grade

Completing the Early Childhood Education Program of Study enables students to be employed in a child care center or enter a post-secondary early childhood education program. Students complete competencies in the development, care, guidance, and teaching of young children from birth through second grade. Students actively participate in the on-site laboratory school through weekly internships and externships.

Electronics

Electronics/Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering Technology – CIP 15.0303

2-Year, 6-Credit Program Students Begin in 11th Grade

The Electronics Program of Study prepares students to apply basic electronic principles and technical skills to the production, calibration, estimation, testing, assembling, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment. Emphasis is on passive components and solid-state devices; digital circuits; optoelectronic devices; operational amplifiers; audio and RF amplifiers; oscillators; power supplies; and AM, FM, and PCM modulators. Knowledge is acquired through theoretical instruction, experimentation, and hands-on activities.

Health/Medical Assisting Services – CIP 51.0899

2-Year, 6-Credit Program Students Begin in 11th Grade

The Health Careers Program of Study provides subject matter and experiences designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in related health occupations under the supervision of a licensed health care professional. Instruction consists of core course content with clinical experiences in one or two health-related occupations. The core curriculum consists of the introduction of health careers, basic anatomy, and physiology, medical terminology, legal and ethical aspects of healthcare, and communications.

PA SOAR Program

McCaskey CTE Program of Study students have the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school through the SOAR program. Students must complete the following to receive the SOAR articulated credits associated with their CTE Program of Study. 

  • Earn a high school diploma, with a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the technical core courses
  • Complete the secondary school component of the approved PDE Program of Study
  • Achieve proficiency on all tasks of the approved PDE Program of Study Competency Task List
  • Achieve competent or advanced level on the secondary school end-of-program assessment that is appropriate for the approved PDE Program of Study

Work-Based Learning Opportunities

An essential component of CTE is participation in a work-based learning experience. McCaskey CTE students work with our co-op coordinator to arrange and participate in a work-based learning experience. Many students participate in paid co-op positions, which allows students to earn as they learn.

International Baccalaureate Career-related Program (IBCP)

The IBCP provides a comprehensive educational framework that combines highly regarded and internationally recognized courses, from the IB Diploma Program (DP), with a unique CP core and an approved career-related study.

McCaskey Campus Requirements:

  • Complete a two-year CTE Program of Study
  • Complete IB Approaches to Learning 
  • Complete two IB standard level courses 
  • Earn a 3 or better in each course
