As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, King Elementary School hosted Noche de Dominó, a community event that brought families together through music, food, and one of the most treasured traditions shared across Hispanic cultures, dominoes.
Families filled the cafeteria with laughter and conversation as they gathered around tables to play a game deeply rooted in tradition and community. For many, dominoes are a connection to home, to family gatherings, and to the shared joy of spending time together.
The evening also featured delicious dishes from a variety of Hispanic cultures and live salsa music performed by Mambojaz Studio. The rhythms of the music and the sound of tiles clicking across tables created an atmosphere that was both festive and familiar, a reminder that culture is strongest when it’s shared.
Events like Noche de Dominó highlight what makes SDoL’s school communities so special. They bring families, students, and staff together to celebrate identity and belonging, creating spaces where traditions are honored and connections are strengthened.
King Elementary’s staff and family advocates worked collaboratively to create an evening that truly reflected the school’s spirit of inclusion and community. Families were encouraged to wear clothing that represented their heritage, transforming the cafeteria into a colorful mosaic of cultures and pride.
As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Noche de Dominó stands as a beautiful reflection of how our schools serve as hubs of culture, community, and pride, where every family’s story is part of the larger fabric that makes Lancaster who we are.
It reinforces a central value of the School District of Lancaster that our diversity is our strength, and our schools are places where every family feels belonging.
